Cleber Anderson quits Lyon

LYON (AFP) – Lyon s injury-plagued Brazilian defender Cleber Anderson Beraldo has reached agreement to quit the French top flight club, his agent said on Thursday.

The 30-year-old is no longer under contract with the former French champions but has still not found a new club, his agent Marcelo Kiremidjian said.

Cleber Anderson arrived in Lyon in August 2007 from Benfica to fill in for compatriot Cris who had suffered a serious knee injury, but was himself sidelined several months later with a serious knee injury.

After his recovery he was loaned to Brazilian side FC Sao Paulo from June 2008 to January 2009 followed by five months at Cruzeiro Belo Horizonte.

FIFA corruption informant Chuck Blazer dies aged 72

Former FIFA Executive Committee member Chuck Blazer has died aged 72, according to his lawyers.

Blazer, who served as CONCACAF general secretary and U.S. Soccer Federation executive vice-president, was handed a lifetime ban by FIFA from all football-related activity in 2015.

The American had pleaded guilty to racketeering conspiracy, money laundering and tax evasion in late 2013.

As part of his plea, Blazer, who had been battling cancer up until his death, agreed to work undercover to help authorities with their investigation into corruption within FIFA.

Zidane gives green light to Real Madrid defender move

Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has given Jesus Vallejo the go-ahead to stay at Granada for the 2020-21 season.

The 23-year-old centre-back has struggled to establish himself at the Santiago Bernabeu, making just 12 appearances in LaLiga for Madrid since signing from Real Zaragoza in July 2015.

Loans to Zaragoza, Eintracht Frankfurt, Wolves and, since January, Granada have given the former Spain Under-21 defender additional first-team opportunities.

He made 11 appearances in the Spanish top flight for Granada after agreeing to a short-term stay in January, and now a full season awaits him with Diego Martinez s team.

Granada finished an impressive seventh in 2019-20 following promotion from the Segunda Division in 2018-19.

The king of debuts – Ibrahimovic´s MLS bow follows familiar trend

Champions League – Ajax 2-1 Lyon, September 2002

Ibrahimovic was introduced to European football way back in 2002, but he was only in the team on the day due to an injury to Rafael van der Vaart and Mido s suspension, which was a consequence of throwing a pair of scissors at the Swede during a row. Ibrahimovic stepped up in their absence, however, scoring a brilliant opener from a tight angle after squeezing between a couple of defenders, before then getting the winner with a simple finish in the Champions League group-stage clash.

Barca in talks with Juve over Coutinho

According to a recent report from Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona have been in talks with Juventus over the possibility of them having first refusal of Philippe Coutinho. The belief is that the Brazilian could be allowed to leave for a fee of around €90 million during the summer transfer window with Bayern Munich not planning on taking up the option to sign him on a permanent basis.

While Bayern and Barcelona don’t appear to be all too eager to have him, there are still plenty of top clubs around European football who seem to be entertaining the idea of bringing him on.

Coutinho was a phenom during his days with Liverpool and if he’s able to recapture even a small percentage of that, he could serve as a useful tool for plenty of teams.

Whether or not anyo…
