LaLiga´s hopes of overseas matches dealt another blow

LaLiga s hopes of staging domestic matches abroad have taken another blow after a Spanish court ruled all league games must take place in Spain.

The Spanish top flight and the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) have been contesting a legal battle for three years over proposals to take matches to the United States.

Back in 2018, LaLiga signed a 15-year agreement with multinational media, sports and entertainment company Relevent, with the aim being to promote the division in North America.

That partly revolved around LaLiga matches taking place in Miami, Florida – the first such occasion was supposed to be a game involving Barcelona and Girona in early 2019, but the Blaugrana pulled out citing a lack of support for an idea that attracted widespread critici…

Isco still a priority for Manchester City

According to AS, Manchester City still consider Real Madrid midfielder Isco to be a priority as they look towards potential signings in the January transfer window. This news comes hot on the heels of Isco himself revealing that he isn’t particularly interested in leaving Real in the January transfer window, with it seeming like City have a task on their hands to try and change his mind.

Pep Guardiola is said to have been a fan of his for quite some time, but as is usually the case, they aren’t alone in that regard.

Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea have all been linked to him, too, although not quite as strongly as City.

The 26 year old first joined Real back in 2013 from Malaga, and while he’s always been a pretty popular figure at the Berna…

Wiegman targets greater clinical edge as Lionesses edge closer to Euro 2025 qualification

Sarina Wiegman hailed England s start in their 2-1 victory over the Republic of Ireland, but wanted to see more goals as her side closed in on qualification for Euro 2025.

Alessio Russo rounded off a fine team move while Georgia Stanway scored from the penalty spot as the Lionesses took all three points in the Group A3 clash at Carrow Road.

After France beat Sweden by the same scoreline, Wiegman s side require just a point against the Swedes in Gothenburg on Tuesday to secure their place at the finals.

Although, the Lionesses margin of victory could have been greater as they enjoyed just under two-thirds of the possession, but converted just two of the 16 chances they created, while Julie Russell struck a stoppage-time consolation for the visitors.

Pochettino: No update on Eriksen

“No news. Everything is in the same place as months ago”.

Those are the words of Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino, who has provided an ‘update’ of sorts on Christian Eriksen. The Danish attacking midfielder has been linked with a move way from Spurs for what feels like forever, and it’s certainly interesting to note that there’s no official update on his status even after all this time.

Eriksen has 18 months left on his current contract with a series of clubs being interested in his signature, including Real Madrid who already have ex-Spurs stars Luka Modric and Gareth Bale on the books.

The 26 year old first joined Tottenham back in 2013, when he made his multi million pound move from Dutch side Ajax. Since then he’s been able to esta…

Overmars extends Ajax contract amid Arsenal links

Marc Overmars has ended speculation linking him with a return to Arsenal by extending his contract at Ajax through to June 2024.

The Gunners are searching for a technical director and reportedly turned attention to their former winger after missing out on Monchi, who opted to reunite with Sevilla following a spell at Roma.

Overmars appeared to be a strong alternative, having overseen the emergence of Matthijs de Ligt, Frenkie de Jong and more since being appointed director of football at Ajax in 2012.

The 45-year-old spent three seasons with the Gunners during his playing career and represented Netherlands at two World Cups.

There are still plenty of challenges at Ajax and I m having a good time here, said Overmars.

De Gea: Spain in great shape for World Cup

David de Gea feels Spain are in great shape to compete for the World Cup title, with his country travelling to Russia full of ambition.

Spain demolished Argentina 6-1 in March and are considered one of the leading contenders for glory in Russia, coach Julen Lopetegui able to select from a deep well of talent.

De Gea was in Spain s squad for the last World Cup but did not get on the pitch, with Iker Casillas and Pepe Reina taking the gloves during a shock group-stage exit.

Spain won the 2010 tournament and De Gea believes Lopetegui s men can compete for the Jules Rimet Trophy again.

We are in great shape. We ve got a great squad and we are going there with a lot of hope and desire and we are really excited about what s ahead, the Manchester United goalke…

Kane playing like his party balloon´s burst – Gary Neville says Spurs star looks unhappy

Gary Neville claims Harry Kane is playing as though someone pooped his party after the Tottenham star drew a fifth successive blank in the Premier League.

The England skipper had not experienced such a league goals drought since August 2016, and his loss of form follows a turbulent period in his career when he looked set to leave Spurs.

Kane appeared destined for a move to Manchester City, but that transfer did not materialise as the Premier League champions could not prise him from the north London club s clutches.

He had five goal attempts in Sunday s 3-1 derby defeat to Arsenal but could not find a way past Aaron Ramsdale.

He doesn t look happy, Neville said.

Pointing to Tottenham s 3-0 defeat to Chelsea in their previous game, Neville said: …

Pasalic signs new Chelsea deal but rejoins Atalanta on loan

Mario Pasalic has signed a new contract at Chelsea but his wait for a competitive appearance will continue after the club agreed to loan him to Atalanta for a second season.

The 24-year-old midfielder has agreed terms to remain at Chelsea until 2022 but will spend his sixth season on loan away from Stamford Bridge, where he first arrived in July 2014.

Since then, the Croatia international has been loaned out to Elche, Monaco, AC Milan, Spartak Moscow and Atalanta, while his appearances for Chelsea have all come in friendly matches.

Pasalic scored five goals in 33 Serie A appearances for Atalanta last season as the Bergamo club achieved a best finish of third in the table and clinched qualification for the Champions League for the first time.

Iran v Spain: Isco impressed with Hierro´s seamless adaptation

Isco has praised interim Spain coach Fernando Hierro for having the wisdom not to make significant changes since taking the reins from the sacked Julen Lopetegui, as they aim to get their first World Cup win against Iran on Wednesday.

Hierro was thrown into the deep end after being appointed just before the finals started, replacing Lopetegui, who was fired for accepting a future role at Real Madrid without telling the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).

His first game in charge saw Spain s World Cup opener end in a brilliant 3-3 draw with Portugal, though the scoreline perhaps did not tell the full story, as the European champions were helped by a rare David de Gea error and an exquisite late Cristiano Ronaldo free-kick.

Given the tumult in the Spain camp,…

Bayern´s Rummenigge cried when he sacked Ancelotti

Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge says he cried when he sacked Carlo Ancelotti.

The Italian was fired by the Bundesliga giants in September 2017 after a 3-0 Champions League defeat at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain.

Ancelotti led Bayern to the Bundesliga title in his only full season in charge, but poor performances in Europe saw him depart.

Rummenigge was tasked with informing the former Chelsea and Real Madrid head coach of Bayern s decision to move him on, with the experience proving emotional for Bayern s chairman.

First of all, I think Ancelotti is a good manager, former Germany striker Rummenigge said on Thursday. Unfortunately, Bayern were not going well after a year and a half and Ancelotti did not get the results we were expecting…
