Miami Fan Charged With Felony Battery After Getting Slugged By Cop

The drunken Miami Hurricanes fan seen getting knocked out by a punch from a Miami-Dade police officer while being carried out of yesterday’s Virginia Tech-Miami game is now being charged with felony battery on a police officer, according to an Associated Press report. Police have charged a 30-year-old nurse with felony battery on a police officer for her part in a videotaped altercation with a detective at a University of Miami football game. Police said Bridget Freitas slapped an officer while being carried out during Miami’s win Saturday over Virginia Tech at Hard Rock Stadium. The officer then punched her in the face. His full name has not been released. So, this woman is having a pretty terrible weekend: drank too much at a football game; got kicked out of said football gam…

Why Your Team Sucks 2012: New England Patriots

Some people are fans of the New England Patriots. But many, many more people are NOT fans of the New England Patriots. This 2012 Deadspin NFL team preview is for those in the latter group. Read the other Why Your Team Sucks 2012 previews here. 1. OW-AH FANS AHHH BETTAH THAN YOUR-AH FANS! New England sports fans are the worst sports fans on the face of the Earth. They're fucking awful in every way, and I can barely stand the sight of them. People from Boston labor under the mistaken belief that being a relentlessly cynical asshole makes you tough. Endearing, even. They believe their deliberate misery makes them harder and deeper than you. It's all BULLSHIT. A truly tough man keeps his chin up when life gets difficult. When life gets difficult for a Boston fan, he calls WEEI eig…

Your 2008 SHOTY Winner: Baby Mangino

Like many of you, I was a bit concerned about Baby Mangino's initial dominance in the bracket. Was this a rash, spur-of-the-moment choice that we'd all regret down the line, like Driving Miss Daisy winning Best Picture or the Buccaneers winning the Super Bowl? But, like some of you, I eventually came around, and the reason was the last week of voting. I found myself charmed by, of all things, the local news report about the Lubbers family's obvious pride in young Bode's accomplishments. I've always considered Deadspin, more than anything else, a site about fun, about how so much of sports has lost it, how we can all regain it again. It's about how sports is silly, how it's a diversion, how it's a way to step away from the world for a few hours and…

Trent Dilfer Bracing For the Kansas City Chiefs to Get Blown Out in Super Bowl

data-mm-id=”_ecblighkx”>The Kansas City Chiefs are one-point favorites in Super Bowl LIV. They have Patrick Mahomes and an offense that looks as though it cannot be stopped. But Trent Dilfer foresees trouble for our Midwestern friends. He believes they are cruising for a bruising at the hands of San Francisco, telling Colin Cowherd yesterday that this matchup is reminiscent of the 49ers taking on Dan Marino's Miami Dolphins and John Elway's Denver Broncos. San Francisco won those games by 22 points and 45 points, respectively. Dilfer apparently sees this year's Chiefs team as a similar entity, a "quarterback-centric" side that doesn't "have the full depth of a football team." His tape-eating has led him to believe the Niners will have no trouble …

Who is Colin Cowherd's New NFL Source?

data-mm-id=”_4ecfrszrm”>Colin Cowherd broke one of the biggest NFL free agency stories of all time when he definitively said, before Adam Schefter, Ian Rapoport, Jay Glazer or anyone else, that Tom Brady was headed to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He even said it would happen the day after he announced the news, which also proved to be true. Cowherd mentioned he had a well-placed source, and that source turned out to be correct. Well, Cowherd went back to the well again, sourcing his source for more sorcery. Let me just say, if he got this one right, this might be the most well-placed source in the NFL. "The same source that gave me the 'Tom Brady to Tampa Bay' story just texted me……Odell Beckham Jr. wants out…"?@ColinCowherd pic.twitter.com/WyiLFRQQ4O— FOX Spor…

Let's Just Have Any Player Who Has Beefed With Charles Barkley Appear on 'Inside the NBA'

data-mm-id=”_nptkm6n27″>Inside the NBA had a special guest last night by the name of Draymond Green, who has nothing to do since the Golden State Warriors were not invited to participate in the NBA bubble in Orlando. He was about as expected. There were a few fun soundbites and hot takes. Green seemed comfortable and didn't mess with the general vibe all too much. The real highlight was when he and Charles Barkley addressed their history of combative comments towards one another, though. It was great. Green complained about seeing Barkley's "triple-single" comment all over his Instagram. The whole thing got me thinking: what if Inside the NBA brought on all of the players Barkley has had some kind of beef with in the past? Just think of the entertainment value there…

Stephen Curry's Next Contract Extension Could Be His Last

data-mm-id=”_cse2od6sn”>Stephen Curry is currently negotiating a new max contract extension with the Golden State Warriors. The extension, which would start in 2022, would be worth a lot of money. Curry will likely become the second player (possibly along with Giannis if he signs a supermax in Milwaukee) behind Damian Lillard to earn $50 million for a single season. The Warriors owe this to Curry, no matter the cap implications. In discussions for a new deal with the #Warriors, Steph Curry's maximum extension would be 3 year, $155.7M contract, starting in 2022.2022-23: $48M2023-24: $52M2024-25: $55.7MHis career on-court earnings after this deal would surpass $410M. https://t.co/aOX1HJNdZy— Spotrac (@spotrac) December 8, 2020Curry signed a four-year, $44 million contract extension…

Dodgers Fans Get Into Parking Lot Brawl After Loss to Twins

data-mm-id=”_1t7q4vgd5″>Things can get nasty around Dodger Stadium during baseball season and we were served another example earlier this week. After the Los Angeles Dodgers dropped a home contest to the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday night, a group of Dodgers fans got into a pretty big fight in the parking lot after the game. You can see the video below via TMZ. One fan appeared to get knocked out after taking a hard fall to the concrete. I'll never understand the postgame parking lot fight. You are so close to home! Just gotta hop on the bus or the train or in the car or whatever and you can take out your frustration in ways other than fistfights with strangers. Just baffling. Hopefully nobody involved was seriously hurt and everybody will be better next time. Hopefully! …
